Congratulations to President-Elect Obama!
After an exciting campaign season and near-record levels of voter turnout on Election Day, we've woken up to an Obama/Biden victory.
Even though there is still work to be done, Americans can be confident that, in President-elect Barack Obama, we have a leader who respects women's rights and who will fight to protect women's health care. Both Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden have consistently demonstrated their commitment to women's health care, including support for affordable birth control and commonsense, science-based sex education.
Up and down the ballot, pro-choice candidates swept the polls, winning key races that will help ensure that pro-choice, pro-women's health policies are put in place throughout the country.
We also saw success in all three states with dangerous anti-choice ballot initiatives — voters in California, Colorado, and South Dakota rejected harsh and extreme measures that would have seriously jeopardized women’s health and safety.
Our work is not over yet. The price of birth control is still out of reach for many low-income and college-aged women, and the health of our children is still threatened by abstinence-only programs that are a $1.5 billion failure. But you can be sure that Planned Parenthood Federation of America will continue to work to ensure access to much-needed health care for the millions of women, men, and families who depend on us.
